What is a task definition?

A task definition is the structure, defined by a user, that determines the content, visibility and functionality of a task. In essence, a task definition is a template for recording task data. Notable aspects of task definitions include:

  • A task name and description

  • An operation (basically, a group)

  • Settings for toggling whether the task should update the location of the asset it's recorded against, whether the task definition should auto clear its values every time its used (to prevent re-use of previous data), and whether the task is active or not (used to disable the use of a definition without deleting it)

  • Elements, organized into sections (individual data elements like checkboxes, text inputs, lists, numeric inputs, etc.)
