  • Feature: Create a block of assets organized in a parent org > child org fashion.

  • Use: Group assets to visualize asset allocation. For example, a project manager could create a parent org for a job site and link assets assigned to that work. With a few clicks, everyone on the team can see which assets are unavailable for outside work because they are assigned to a parent org.

Prerequisites

Opening the Geneology window

The first step is to select an asset that will serve as the parent org. In this example, I open an asset called Calgary Bridge Job Site.

  1. Go to the side menu and select Assets > Asset Registry.

  2. On the Registry page, click an asset.

  3. On the asset grid, select the asset. The Asset Summary page displays.

  4. Go to the top of the summary page and click the leaf icon. The Geneology window displays.

Assigning a child asset

When you open an asset and create a child asset, the original asset automatically becomes the parent. To add an asset, go to the asset block and click the leaf icon. Select an option in the menu. In this example, I select New Child > Add Existing Asset.

In the Link Assets window, enter a search word and click the search icon. Check a box to select one or more items. Click Add Selected.

Repeat the steps to add more assets. When complete, click Proceed.

The canvas displays the parent org and child assets.

Adjusting the display

Use the toolbar in the bottom right corner of the canvas to change how asset blocks display.

  1. Center the asset blocks.

  2. Flip between a vertical and horizontal layout.

  3. Zoom in and zoom out.

  4. Change the block layout.

Locating linked assets

When you open an asset grid, scan the Geneology column. Linked assets have a dark leaf icon. Unlinked assets have a light leaf icon. Click the dark leaf icon to open the Geneology page and display the associated parent-child block layout.

Removing a child asset

Open the Geneology page, locate an asset, and click the three-dot icon. Then click Remove Parent. After a moment, the canvas removes the asset.
