  • Feature: Enable or disable access to beacon options.

  • Use: Manage user access to beacons by configuring Asset Type settings and user permissions.

A different article shows you how to attach a beacon to an asset. Click here to learn how.

Configuring beacon settings

You enable or disable beacon settings at the Asset Type level. If you need to confirm an asset's Type:

  1. Click Asset Registry on the side menu.

  2. Locate the asset's Asset Type. It's the last line on the asset card.

  3. Open each folder until you find the asset you're looking for.

  4. The name of the asset type is the third line on the asset registry card.

Next, click Asset DefinitionManager on the side menu.

  1. Go to the left menu and expand a Class folder to display the asset type. Click the asset type label.

  2. Go to the right side of the page and click the three-dot icon. Select Advanced Settings. A popup displays.

In the Advanced Settings popup, go to the Enable Beacons line and check the box. Scroll down and click Save.

  • When enabled, you can attach a beacon to any asset associated with this Asset Type.

  • If the box in the popup is not checked, the Nextar platform hides the beacon option for all assets associated with this Asset Type. This is a useful setting for assets that wouldn't usually require a beacon.

Managing user permissions

Review and configure user permissions to access beacon settings.

You assign permissions to a user group rather than an individual user. Individual users inside a group automatically inherit group permissions. Click here to learn how to create a user group.

  1. Go to the side menu and click Manage > Permission Manager.

  2. In the Permission Groups panel, click a user group name.

  3. Go to the centre window and click the Misc. menu tab.

Scroll down to the Beacons heading. Expand the folder and check the box. Nektar auto-saves the changes.
