  • Feature: Create a List-type element for asset and task definitions.

  • Use: Display a single value from a list.

There are two types of lists: Internal and External. This article shows you how to create an Internal list. Click here to learn how to set up an External list.

Choose the Internal list option to display the final value in a multi-layer list. In the screenshot below, the list shows the license plate number for the selected piece of heavy equipment.

Prerequisites

Know how to create a list with two or more layers. The screenshot below shows an example of a list (called Location) with three layers: country, state/province, and city.

Opening the attributes window

  1. Create an element (or edit an existing one).

  2. Select List type.

  3. Click the Attributes tab.

  4. Configure settings. (see below)

  5. Click Save.

Configuring settings

Default value

This is an optional field. If you enter a value here, Nektar auto-fills the element field each time a user creates a record with this definition. The user can overwrite the default by selecting an option on the list.

Cascading Style

Select Internal. This list option displays each list level when the user creates a new asset or records a new task. However, the summary page displays the selected value in the last layer. For example, the screenshot below shows a List-type element on the Create Asset page. The form prompts the user to select a Brand, Model, and License Plate number.

On the Asset Summary page, the element displays the last value in the list (i.e. license plate number).

Source List

Click the field and select a list name. The options you see here come from the List Manager page. Optionally, click the Edit List link to open the List Manager page and update the list.

Allow Custom Entry

If you check this box, the user can manually enter a value not on the list.
