  • Feature: Change the type settings assigned to an asset or task element.

  • Use: Update settings in response to new data requirements.

Use case

Sometimes, changing the element type is easy. For example, a user created an asset element with a numeric type to input a serial number. Later, serial numbers for those assets have alphanumeric characters. In this example, the user can easily switch the element type from numeric to a textbox.

  1. Edit the element.

  2. Choose a new type.

Challenging conversions

Some element-type conversions cannot be completed by the user. This is usually the case when the data in the existing type are not easily convertible to a new type. For instance, if I have a list element with several text choices, it would be impossible to convert that data to a checkbox element by opening the edit tool and selecting a different type.
