Feature: Dynamically link an input value in a task element to a field in an asset element.
Use: Keep asset information up-to-date when related tasks are recorded or edited. If a user enters a number in the task element, Nektar updates the field in the asset element. There are three update options: replace, add, and subtract. If the field in the task element is blank, Nektar does not update the asset element.
Use case
A company has a 4,000-litre diesel fuel tank (an asset). A task definition has an element that links fuel tank refills to the tank asset. Each time a field worker records a fuel refill task, Nektar auto-updates the fuel level in the asset.
Prerequisites
Know how to create a task element and asset element.
Creating a link
This step shows you how to link a task element (i.e. the volume of bulk fuel added to the storage tank) to an asset element (i.e. the volume of fuel in the tank before the refill).
To create this dynamic connection, complete three steps.
Verify (or create) the element field in the asset definition.
Configure the Extended Properties of the task definition element.
Test the link.
Verifying the asset definition element
Open the asset definition and locate the element. Confirm the element type is numeric. Update the element attributes if required. Make a note of the element name.
Configuring the task definition element
Next, link an element in a task definition to the element in the asset definition.
Open the task definition.
Create an element field with a numeric type.
Click the Set Elements to Update button. A popup displays.
In the popup, click the fields and use the drop-down menus to select the asset definition (i.e. Class, Category, and Type) and element. Click the Add Asset Element button to link the task element to the asset element. Click Done to close the popup.
On the task element popup, click the Extended Properties tab. Go to the Alter Asset Column heading and select an operation. In this example, I select Add because I want to add the fuel purchased to the current volume in the storage tank. Click Create.
If a user records a task with a number in this element field, Nektar auto-adds that number to the value in the asset field.
Testing the link
Open the asset summary page and confirm the baseline number. The screenshot below shows the fuel tank has 300 litres.
Record a task. In this case, the user records a task with 1500 in the Number of litres purchased field. Note the task page auto-loads the asset.
Refresh the asset summary page. The Fuel in tank field shows the new number is 1800 (300+1500).
