In the task definition manager you can set an element to update an asset field when the task is recorded or edited. It is important to note that if the value of the task element is blank then it will not update the asset element. To set this option create or edit a task element and at the bottom of the modal select the set columns to update button.

This will lead you to another modal that will allow you to select an asset column to update when this task is recorded or edited. The top drop down allows you to either select a specific element from a specific asset definition, or you can select the "All Classes" option which will give you options for the columns that all assets share. This all classes option also has a "Custom" option which allows you to type the name of an asset element. If there is a custom element set whenever this task is recorded or edited it will look at the asset that it is against and if an element in that asset matches the name you have entered it will update that asset element.
