An asset definition is the structure that determines an asset's content, visibility, and functionality. In essence, it is a template for creating tasks. Asset definitions are organized by a category and class, both of which are mandatory. These labels are used to group and filter asset definitions.

Notable aspects of asset definitions include:

  • A custom icon and colour to represent the asset definition.

  • A description.

  • Elements organized into sections (individual data elements like checkboxes, text inputs, lists, numeric inputs, etc.).

  • Valid task definitions (restrict only certain types of tasks from being allowed to be recorded against assets of a certain type).

  • Settings for toggling whether assets of this type should be allowed to be attached to a project, specific columns that should be used to create an asset identifier and whether the asset definition is active or not (used to disable the use of a definition without deleting it)

Many of these options are defaulted when you create them. Make sure you take the time to set them to match your needs.
