Feature: Integrate your Caterpillar OEM telematics device with Nektar.
Use: This integration communicates with Caterpillar's AEMP 2.0 API but not Visionlink. You'll get the same result, but this is an important distinction when talking with your CAT dealer.
Prerequisites
You must subscribe to our telematics module. Integrating Caterpillar devices has an associated cost. Contact your Nektar sales rep for pricing.
Setting up a Caterpillar device
If you have multiple Caterpillar vehicles with telematics devices, you only need to complete these steps once.
First, ask your CAT dealer for Caterpillar AEMP 2.0 API credentials. If they don't understand the request, see the dealer instructions below. Explain that Nektar/Geotab integration is the intended use of the API credentials if they ask for more information.
Caterpillar will likely ask you to sign an agreement document. Then, they will send you the credentials in a text document. The credentials look like a random string of characters. Send this document to your Nektar customer support representative.
Setting up Nektar
After you send us the Caterpillar credentials, request virtual Geotab IDs from your Nektar customer support representative. Let the agent know how many Caterpillar devices you want to add and their purposes.
Your customer support representative will give you a list of virtual IDs. At this point, the virtual IDs are generic and aren't associated with any specific vehicle or piece of equipment.
Log in to your Nektar account, go to the Asset Manager, and open the asset type for a vehicle. Make sure the telematics setting is enabled for each asset type. Read this article to learn how.
Open the Asset Summary page for each telematics integration vehicle. Click Install Device in the telematics widget.
Select Geotab OEM Integration as the device type.
Fill in the Geotab ID field with a virtual ID provided by the Nektar customer rep. Enter the vehicle's VIN/serial (or equivalent).
Finally, click Install. The setup work is done. After some time, the telematics widget and asset location should begin automatically updating. OEM integrations expose varying amounts of data, so not all charts, gauges, or details will be filled out on all integrations.
Virtual Geotab IDs can be reused if the equipment is retired or sold. Be sure to unlink the device from the Nektar asset before deleting or deactivating the asset.
Caterpillar Dealer Instructions
Please note - customers are unable to request API subscriptions directly within Caterpillar's Digital Marketplace. The request must come from the customer's Caterpillar dealer. Refer to the following article to assist you in contacting/locating your dealer.
Cat Digital - How to Look Up a Dealer Using Dealer Locator, Dealer Directories, or Region Maps.
Your customer requires credentials for the CAT ISO 15143-3 (AEMP 2.0) API. You will need to fill out the subscription form at https://digital.cat.com. Please refer to the following help article for info on how to subscribe to an API within Caterpillar's Digital Marketplace.

API credentials will be in the form of a Client ID / Client Secret, likely in text document format. Please provide this info to your customer for use in this integration.
