Map layers, while they exist in several different formats, all accomplish the same goal; displaying data on top of a map in order to provide visual context and helpful abstraction. Our Map interface supports the adding, viewing, and manipulating of various formats broken up into two distinct groups:

Feature Layers:

  • Uses vector type data (such as polygons, polylines, etc.) to represent data - i.e. locations of earthquakes or path of a pipeline.

  • Supported formats include shapefiles (.shp), Web Feature Service (WFS), and ArcGIS Feature Service

Raster Layers:

  • Users raster type data (images) for it's visualization, and is useful for overlaying blueprints, building schematics, third party satellite imagery etc. on top of base maps.

  • Supported formats include common image files (jpg, png, etc.), tile bundles (MapTiler, etc.), Tile Map Service (TMS), Web Map Service (WMS) and aerial photographs from Drone Deploy.
