What is Crew Presence?

How Crew Presence works, when it shares your location, the status indicator, pausing, and privacy.

Written by Mike Maat

Crew Presence helps your team stay coordinated and safe in the field by sharing your device's location with your supervisor during your working hours.

The basics

When your company enables Crew Presence and you turn it on for your device, the app periodically shares your location while you're on the clock. Your supervisor can then see where the crew is on a map — helpful for coordinating jobs, responding to changes, and keeping everyone safe.

When does it share my location?

  • Only during working hours. Your company sets a daily schedule (Hours of Service). Outside those hours, Crew Presence stops sharing your location automatically.

  • Only when you've turned it on. Crew Presence is opt-in on your device and requires location permission.

  • Never when paused. You can pause it any time (see below).

The status indicator

A small coloured dot in the app's side menu shows your current status:

  • Green (Active) — sharing your location now.

  • Gray (Paused) — you've paused it; it will resume when the pause ends.

  • Orange (Inactive) — you're outside your working-hours schedule right now.

  • Red (Disabled) — Crew Presence is off, or location permission hasn't been granted.

Pausing and resuming

Tap the status indicator to pause for 1 hour, 5 hours, until the next day, or a custom time. Tracking resumes automatically when the pause ends (or at the start of your next working window). Tap it again while paused to resume right away.

Turning it on or off

Open Settings → Crew Presence to enable or disable it for your device and to view your working-hours schedule. You're always in control and can turn it off at any time.

Your privacy

  • Location is only shared during your company's configured working hours, and never while paused or disabled.

  • You can pause or turn off Crew Presence whenever you need to.

  • The schedule is set by your company; if you have questions about it, contact your supervisor.

Troubleshooting

  • Dot is red: check that Crew Presence is enabled in Settings and that you've granted location permission (choose Always for it to work in the background).

  • Dot is orange: you're outside your scheduled hours — it will turn green automatically when your next window starts.

  • Dot is gray: you have an active pause; tap it to resume.
